Tony de Winton All stars
Tony de Winton has been involved in Jazz, R&B and Soul music for twenty years. Firstly as premier song writer for Scottish soul band "the RBs" then as dual vocalist with Combo Vitto and Occapella respectivelyninvoolving UK tours with Rose Royce and Freeze. He wrote the RBs hit Uruguay which had success in Europe and Australia. Throughout this period he was also a member of the Pertistalsis Brothers a very popular GI swing Octet who recorded several jazz standards on the album "Overnight At Wilfs" featuring Long Island alto saxophonist Jeff Freedner. The band appeared live in New Yorks Greenwich Village.
After relocating from his native Scotland to London in 1988 he became session vocalist with the James Anthony Soul Vocal Clinic in North London and also sessioned as guitarist for Beverly Knight, Jahmelia and Camile Douglas. Tony also complimented soul crooner Paul Antons albums with his blend of guitar also apperaing in Pauls UK live shows.
Next he teamed up with lyricist Owen Davidson and forme East Coast Love Affair who wre promptly signed to rare UK groove label Ardent who at the time boasted a host of talent including San Dees, Ronnie Dyson and Lincon & the Continentals. The single "Love that I need " followed gaining high acclaim in "Blues & Soul" magazine. A further single called "Objects of my Love" was released in 1996 before a move to JTB Music Ltd a label controlled by UK vocal guru James Anthony. James worked with Tony & Owen on new material in the Sian studios of North London where they penned "Bruised, Angel & How we gonna make it" which appeared on the JTB CD in 1998.
Tony then moved into Gospel joining The Active Faith Singers as vocals/guitar in 1999 and appears on the album "Active Faith" produced by Siam records.
In 2003 Tony became guest vocalist for Roy Potts Five & a Penny at the St Lucia jazz Festival where he performed his versions of many jazz swing standards. On his return to the UK he recorded these versions which include Chet Bakers " Lets Get Lost" & Eddie Jeffersons " Moody Mood for Love". These songs are scheduled for UkK release in 2004.
Tony de Winton Allstars have appeared at the Edinburgh International Jazz Festivalwith the Peristalsis Brothers, in London at Ronnie Scotts and the 606 club with Active Faith. Tony was invited back to St Lucia by Heineken for Jazz 2005. He can also be heard with his quartet The Cocktail Cousins on Sunday afternoons at Edinburgh Mal Maison on the shore in Leith.
